Today is a big day with a really cool milestone for
Tech Head
Brothers website.
First I am able to publish/update content on the site with my new publishing
tool; a word template using vsto 2005 and secured web services. This piece of
code let me publish content with pictures, colorized source code, zip files for
sample applictions and this directly out of Word 2003. Really cool!!!
First project about Team System is a book that I started with my friend
Kader
Yildirim. We had a first contact with one editor and were disapointed a bit
because we were told that there is no ‘market’ for such a book. I really think
that there is, because Team System is an awesome tool. Nevermind we will
continue to search an editor. By the way if you are interested, please feel free
to contact me. One side
note, the book will be written in French.
The second project with my brother Mathieu is to
update our website Tech Head
Brothers to use ASP.NET 2. Currently Mathieu
is located in Sydney, Australia and will soon move to Perth, Australia because
he found a new job there. So to work on such condition we need really good tools
to communicate, Groove Virtual
Office, Skype and MSN
Messenger. Ok with those tools we can have in real time discussions, share
idea, even share documents in online/offline mode. But we missed a Software
Development Lifecycle Tool (SDLC). At the time of the website version written in
ASP.NET 1.0/1.1, we had tried several solutions from Visual SourceSafe over
Internet, over VPN, then we moved to CVS because it was too slow. We also had Draco.NET…

code. Why ? To avoid to have to write comments ;-) Because it
will be read as a spoken language and it
separate important code from distracting one.
This evening (hum morning ;) I decided to give a try to the conversion
wizard integrated in Visual Studio 2005 that let you import older 1.1
projects.
I choosed to import my whole website: Tech Head Brothers. You might
see next the conversion report:
While trying out the new features of the latest Visual Studio 2005 I came
across a really cool one, debugging in the aspx :
I knew I read it somewhere !!! Latest release of Whidbey permits to hide the components on the designer. Use the View menu Non Visual Controls, shortcut Ctrl+Shift+N.

In some portal scenarios you might want to have only webmaster(s) manage the layout of the site. So your goal is to avoid that a registered user change it.
With Webparts you might build portal that match this scenario like this:
Add to you web.config:
...
...
This configuration set that only users with the role webmaster might change the layout.
Then you might place a WebPartPageMenu control on your site. This control is listing all the personalisation to the webpart system you might do as a logged in user. In the case of a user in the role of webmasters, the WebPartPageMenu will have one of it entries set to: Show Share view.
You can select this entry and then Design Page Layout to be able to design the layout of the page for the user the anonymous users.
